A Winter Statistics Review Activity

Updated: Dec 16

Snow is falling (in places like Michigan!), midterms may be looming, and winter break is just around the corner. We know these last few days can be a bit of a flurry with crazy schedules, holiday excitement, and the challenge of keeping students engaged. So, before we all dash off for some much-needed rest and relaxation, we’ve created a fun and festive way to do some review of the most challenging topics in the first semester: Probability and Random Variables. In this color-by-number activity, students will work on 10 problems from Math Medic AP Stats Unit 5 & Unit 6, making it a perfect 20–30 minute review if you need something on a half day.

This activity is designed to help students solidify their understanding of Probability and Random Variables while enjoying a bit of holiday cheer. Students will need colored pencils and the activity handout for today's review. Their answer choice will determine what color they will use to shade in the numbered region. The answer to question 1 will determine the color of the regions marked 1 on the coloring page, and so on. The coloring page can be found on the last page of the activity handout.

During the day before break, we engage our students in a low-stakes collaborative activity like this. Additionally, to make the activity more enjoyable, we provide them with some holiday music as they work.

We sincerely hope that you and your students have a delightful time Statsing the Halls!
